Obatzda is a Bavarian beer cheese dip which is traditionally served with beer and other alcoholic beverages in beergardens and at the Oktoberfest in Munich.
It uses Camembert, spices and onions in one smooth dip, served with pretzels ‘Bretzeln’ and/or bread and is a delicious appetizer or snack.
Recipe Obatzda (try and pronounce that one 🙂
- 1/4 onion
- 100 g Camembert, ripe
- 100 g Brie, ripe
- 50 g butter
- 20 g Crème fraiche
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp paprika spice
- 1/4 tsp ground cumin
- 20 g beer
Chop the onions as finely as possible. Add Camembert, Brie, butter, crème fraiche, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin and beer and blend everything together until it is a smooth mass. Can also be made in a Thermomix or a normal blender.
Serve with pretzels and/or dark bread.
